My style of therapy assists clients with overcoming attachment issues, fears and creating new ways of deeply connecting to the significant people in their lives. As a therapist, I have studied and utilized with success several theories and techniques of counseling, including but not limited to: person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, motivational interviewing, feedback informed therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, trauma informed therapy approaches but I have a great passion for Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy as I have seen the most change with clients using AEDP techniques. I have found that it is the all-important interaction between the client and myself where the art of therapy lies. This art is the rapport, which is established by bringing my genuine self to each session and by valuing each client, and their distinctive qualities and unique experiences. Annette CCC provides consultations primarily in English.

Here are answers to some common questions about receiving Licensed Counseling or Therapy care with Annette CCC:

What's the difference between a Counselor, a Psychologist, and a Psychiatrist?
A counselor, like Annette, provides talk therapy with a Master's degree. A psychologist has a doctorate and specializes in therapy and testing. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication.
What actually happens in a therapy session?
A typical session is a safe and confidential conversation where you'll talk with Annette about your thoughts, feelings, and challenges. She will listen without judgment, offer new perspectives, and help you develop coping skills and strategies to reach your goals. It's a collaborative process focused on your needs.
Do I have to have a major 'problem' to go to counseling?
No. Annette sees many clients who aren't experiencing a crisis, but want to improve their relationships, manage stress, or grow personally. Therapy is a proactive step toward mental wellness, not just for those facing major problems. It's a place to process life's challenges and opportunities.
My work life is incredibly stressful. Is that a valid reason to seek counseling?
Yes, significant work-related stress is a very common reason to seek counseling. Annette can help you develop strategies for managing stress, setting healthy boundaries, improving your work-life balance, and preventing burnout.
How is family therapy different from individual therapy?
Annette's family therapy focuses on the interactions and dynamics within the family system, unlike individual therapy, which focuses on one person's thoughts and feelings. The goal is to improve family communication, resolve conflicts, and enhance the overall family unit's functioning.
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a common and effective type of talk therapy. Annette helps clients identify, challenge, and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. It's a hands-on approach where clients learn practical skills to better manage issues like anxiety, stress, and depression.
I'm dealing with a recent loss. Can counseling help with grief?
Yes. Grief is a natural process, but sometimes it can be overwhelming. Annette provides a compassionate space to process the complex emotions of loss, learn healthy coping mechanisms, and navigate the journey of grieving at your own pace.
My partner and I are struggling with communication. Is this something you can help with?
Yes, couples counseling is a core service at my practice. It provides a safe space for partners to address communication challenges. Annette can help teach effective communication skills, navigate conflicts, and work towards rebuilding connection and understanding in the relationship.
